Rules of the game

Lotto Max

Rules of the game

LOTTO MAX is governed by the RULES AND REGULATIONS RESPECTING LOTTERIES AND LOTTERY TICKETS of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation ("ILC") which include limitations of liability.

Each play is comprised of three selections. Each selection is composed of seven numbers from 1 to 49.

You may buy a lottery ticket either through an entirely online transaction or by way of generating a bar code online which will enable a Loto-Québec retailer to register your play(s) and issue a lottery ticket indicating, among other things, the name of the game, the draw date(s), the play(s), the amount wagered and a control number. In the latter case, once the ticket has been issued, verify the information on your ticket and sign it. A purchase transaction is only concluded when it results in the registration of one or more play(s) in Loto-Québec's central computer system. In any case, ONLY PLAYS REGISTERED BY LOTO-QUÉBEC'S CENTRAL COMPUTER SYSTEM PARTICIPATE IN THE GAME.

On each draw date, or as soon as possible after that date, ILC will cause seven main numbers and one bonus number to be drawn at random among all numbers from 1 to 49.

Winning selections as a result of a draw are determined as follows:

  • 3/7: 3 of the main numbers
  • 3/7+B: 3 of the main numbers and the bonus number
  • 4/7: 4 of the main numbers
  • 5/7: 5 of the main numbers
  • 6/7: 6 of the main numbers
  • 6/7+B: 6 of the main numbers and the bonus number
  • 7/7: the 7 main numbers

ILC determines, from time to time, a prize structure. The amount of each prize as a result of a draw is calculated in accordance with the prize structure in force. Only one prize per winning selection.

All free plays won following an online purchase are automatically issued for the draw following the one for which they were won.

Changes will be made to Lotto Max starting with the May 14, 2019, draw, particularly with regard to draw frequency, maximum jackpot, prize structure and odds of winning.

Notably, when the amount of the 7/7 pool for any given draw exceeds $50,000,000, it shall be capped at an amount set between $50,000,000 and $60,000,000 inclusive (the “7/7 pool cap”), and the excess is divided into additional prizes of $1,000,000 (Maxmillions). The difference is added to the 6/7+B pool.

For example: The advertised jackpot (the 7/7 pool cap) is set at $50,000,000. If the 7/7 pool reaches $52,214,000, on top of the $50,000,000 jackpot, two Maxmillions will be drawn. The remaining amount of $214,000 would be added to the 6/7+B pool.

Lotto 6/49

Rules of the game

LOTTO 6/49 is governed by the RULES AND REGULATIONS RESPECTING LOTTERIES AND LOTTERY TICKETS of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation ("ILC") which include limitations of liability.

Each play is comprised of one selection of six numbers from 1 to 49 (the "Regular Selection") and one "Guaranteed Prize Draw Selection".

Each Guaranteed Prize Draw Selection issued is generated by computer, is unique and represents a number composed of 10 digits (XXXXXXXX-XX).

For the Guaranteed Prize Draw Selections, a segmented group of numbers is assigned to each of the five Canadian lottery corporations. Also, the Guaranteed Prize Draw Selections are issued in sequence. For example, when a lottery ticket is composed of several plays, the first eight digits of your selections remain the same and the two last digits range from 01 to the number of plays purchased (67890123-01, 67890123-02, 67890123-03, …).

When a lottery ticket is composed of 3 Lotto 6/49 plays or more, the Guaranteed Prize Draw Selections are shown as a range. For example, if you buy 10 Lotto 6/49 plays on the same lottery ticket, you will get 10 Regular Selections and 10 Guaranteed Prize Draw Selections, which numbers will range from 67890123-01 to 67890123-10. Your Guaranteed Prize Draw Selections will be indicated as follows:
DE : 67890123-01
À : 67890123-10

On each draw date, or as soon as possible after that date, ILC will cause six main numbers and one bonus number to be drawn at random among all numbers from 1 to 49 ("Main Draw"). Furthermore, one Guaranteed Prize Draw Selection is drawn at random from among all the Guaranteed Prize Draw Selections issued for that draw ("Guaranteed Prize Draw").

Winning selections as a result of a draw are determined as follows:

MAIN DRAW

  • 2/6: 2 of the main numbers
  • 2/6+B: 2 of the main numbers and the bonus number
  • 3/6: 3 of the main numbers
  • 4/6: 4 of the main numbers
  • 5/6: 5 of the main numbers
  • 5/6+B: 5 of the main numbers and the bonus number
  • 6/6: all 6 main numbers

GUARANTEED PRIZE DRAW

  • The complete number (10 digits)

A winning Guaranteed Prize Draw Selection is one whose number is identical to that of the Guaranteed Prize Draw Selection drawn.

ILC determines, from time to time, a prize structure. The amount of each prize as a result of a draw is calculated in accordance with the prize structure in force.

Only one prize per winning selection. All free plays won following an online purchase are automatically issued for the draw following the one for which they were won.

Details of the annuity

The winner who wishes to take advantage of the annuity must be a resident of Québec aged 18 or older. The winner will receive $1,000 a week for life, i.e. until his or her death. However, instead of the annuity, the winner may choose a non-taxable lump sum of $1,000,000.

Regarding the annuity, it is an amount of $1,000 net of taxes, which will be paid on a weekly basis. A designated insurance company will be responsible for administering and paying out the annuity.

In the event the winner dies within the first 20 years after the prize claim date, the annuity is transferrable to the winner’s legal heirs, who will receive the same annuity, paid at the same frequency for the balance of the 20 years that have not elapsed. If the winner is 71 years of age or older at the time the prize is claimed, the minimum payment period is shorter. In this case, the winner will be entitled to the annuity income. In the event of his death, the legal heirs will be entitled to the annuity income only until the date that would have been the winner’s 91st birthday, had he survived (Canada’s Income Tax Act).

In the event the winner dies before notifying Loto-Québec of his or her decision regarding the choice between the lump sum and the annuity, the winner’s legal heirs will be entitled to the lump sum.

Payoff rate

This game has a theoretical payoff rate of 84.97%**.
